DEEP REST RetreaT
WITH SOMATIC EXPLORATIONS

November 3rd-6th, 2022
Biosphärenreservat Schorfheide-Chorin, BRANDENBURG
Retreat House Ananda
"We practice letting go of what we are not, and allowing what is. Life beyond ideas leaves room for spacious joy and powerful shifts that make a real difference in our lives." ~Jaya Ashmore

A retreat about coming home to our bodies through tenderness, in a safe space for you to come as you are and sink into embodiment in a four-day, three-night retreat. Rachel and Noon (see bio below) will guide the group around exploring friendship with ourselves; exploring ease and difficulty with belonging. In Deep Rest Meditation we are encouraged to practice lying down meditation, which can support deeper layers of letting go, to nourish a sense of ease and gentleness with ourselves, others, and our environments. Through rest and somatic explorations, we experience our bodies, our environment, our identities from different perspectives. These practices are not about brushing aside any difficulties we may have being in our bodies (such as traumas, dysphoria, …) nor about going into passive acceptance of social injustices in the world. Instead, in coming home to our embodied hearts, we can touch our tender empowerment, find greater clarity, and expand compassion for ourselves and others.

During the retreat there will be guided meditations, somatic exercises, walking, sitting and lying down meditations, chants from around the globe, 2 days of silence, teachings with dialogue and questions, and the chance for one-to-one guidance and support. The retreat will be in a quiet village retreat house (Seminarhaus Ananda) in Biosphärenreservat Schorfheide-Chorin, an hour and ten minutes by train/bus from Berlin-Gesundbrunnen. With a calm garden on the grounds, and nature walks around, we can take a pause together from busy life and city noise to relax our alarm systems. Delicious vegetarian meals (vegan or gluten free alternatives possible if requested ahead of time) and cozy rooms will be provided by the wonderful retreat venue staff. All levels of meditation experience and spiritual backgrounds welcome. LGBTQI+ safe space.

“When you go out into the woods, and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree.

The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying ‘You are too this, or I’m too this.’ That judgment mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.” ~ Ram Dass

NOON BALDWIN
Retired  from circus & street artist life in 2004, Noon has since dedicated his life to spiritual practice and Dhamma centers. After 5 years in the Tibetan tradition, Noon has been practicing with Jaya Ashmore from Open Dharma since 2008, lived at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England for 2.5 years, and has been teaching retreats since 2012 (including Deep Rest Retreats with Jaya's blessing). Noon has led retreats in France, England, Germany, and Finland.  Noon lives at Ekuthuleni, an ecological retreat place he co-founded near the French Pyrenees. Ekuthuleni is rooted in the Thai-Forest tradition of Ajahn Chah whilst also listening deeply to spiritual currents of all sorts.
Noon's ongoing fields of exploration are connecting with curiosity, energy, & a sense of embodying spiritual practice through grounding meditations...into the natural kindness in our sensual human bodies... beyond concepts. He enjoys how the traditional & open spirituality practices meet as one in his heart. He's a transexuel man, intrigued by freedom from suffering through form & formless resonances.
